How to Properly Package Asbestos Waste for Transportation and Disposal

When packaging asbestos, safety is first and foremost. If you chose not to use a certified asbestos contractor then your number one concern is minimizing your exposure to airborne asbestos fibers. This includes the fibers contaminating the building interior and the living space.

  • Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM) must be packed within two purposes made 6 mil asbestos bags. Our preferred method is as follows:
  • Place the material into a marked bag that is printed with all the warnings and information required by law. This must be done without damaging the bag. Then this bag is twisted and taped shut.
  • Next this bag is inserted into a second clear bag and also twisted closed and taped securely. This allows the authorities to confirm that there are in fact two bags as per regulations and the warning markings are clearly visible through the clear outer bag.
  • For safety reasons the weight of these bags cannot exceed 15 Kg (35 lbs). We have in stock the proper certified asbestos bags.
